The World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT) is the sole international voice for physical therapy. On behalf of its members, WCPT undertakes a range of projects and supports international campaigns to promote the physical therapy profession and its contribution to global health. It encourages high standards of physical therapy research, education and practice. WCPT has 101 member organisations and represents more than 300,000 physical therapists worldwide. Its member organisations have exclusive access to a wide range of benefits.

Resources

The confederation’s user-friendly website gives members unique worldwide access to the profession with:

• keynote papers, declarations of principle and position statements
• a profile page of your member organisation on the WCPT website
• information on new international guidelines and policy as they are developed
• contact with physical therapists around the world through our web based discussion forums

Events

• World Physical Therapy Day - take part and help promote the profession on 8th September. Have access to ready made promotional materials and articles along with information and ideas on planning activities and events, plus the opportunity to have your events profiled on the WCPT website.
• Congress - the profession’s largest international event showcasing advances in physical therapy research, practice and education. Enjoy the members’ discount to attend.

Communications

• WCPT News - published four times a year, the only physical therapy specific newsletter with a global view. Many articles within WCPT News are also available for reprint in your own newsletters (with appropriate permissions).
• WCPT e-update – sent monthly giving you information on new projects, update reports and news on the confederation’s international work.

Policy

• Opportunities to contribute to and have your say on WCPT projects.
• Attendance and voting at the WCPT General Meeting, held every four years, ensuring WCPT’s work benefits the profession in your country and worldwide.
• Support for your organisation in establishing standards, developing education programmes and regulating the physical therapy profession in your country.

International

• WCPT works with other international health professional groups to improve the quality of health services around the world, collaborating on subjects such as regulation and positive practice environments.
• WCPT maintains official relationships with government and non-government agencies worldwide, including the World Health Organization.
• WCPT subgroups are international physical therapy organisations representing a specific area of interest, providing an excellent resource for contacts and information on those areas of practice.

Awards

WCPT’s respected awards programme recognises physical therapists who have made outstanding international contributions to the profession. Presented every four years during the international congress, member organisations have an opportunity to nominate those they feel deserve exceptional recognition.
