World Physical Therapy Day

WCPT has designated 8th September, the date WCPT was founded in 1951, as World Physical Therapy Day.  Information and resources for World Physical Therapy Day 2009 are now available.

The day marks the unity and solidarity of the physical therapy community from 101 countries around the world. It is an opportunity to recognise the work that physical therapists do for their patients and community. WCPT aims to support member organisations in their efforts to promote the profession and to advance their clinical expertise, using World Physical Therapy Day as a focus.

Celebration of the day is entirely voluntary.  Many WCPT member organisations already have designated national physical therapy days, weeks and months and it is not the intention that these be changed to accommodate the world day. However, organisations that have not designated a day may choose to use 8th September.

It is up to individual member organisations to decide what activities and materials they wish to develop.  That way, they can reflect key national priorities and messages.

But WCPT does provide ideas, and support materials - most of which can be found in the World Physical Therapy Day toolkit.

We are happy to publish brief details of activities planned by WCPT member organisations. Please send details to rmoore@wcpt.org

press release for world physical therapy day

I enjoyed reading your new releases on cardiovascular disease and diabetes and was suggesting to a peer that they read the information- in directing them to the site it noted that the files were no longer available. Did you discontinue access after the world PT day or did some quirk of cyberspace delete important information?

Today is the World Physiotherapy Day. Our college as usual celebrated this day in our way.
This Physiotherapy institute being only 6 years old has achieved a renowned position in Indian Under-graduate Education of Allied Health Sciences, under the Department of health and family welfare, West Bengal Government. Every year our college celebrate World Disability Day, World Physiotherapy Day. As usual this year we went to a Leprosy Mission, where we somehow managed a seminar with the Occupational Therapists of the Mission, Surgeons. We dealt with the patients for some time and did gave some advices for their well-being. We donated foods, sweets, etc. Returning to the college we had again a small seminar with having our students giving lectures about the day, leprosy, and other useful medical topics.
Moreover our college provides free camps for all once a year.
In this way we are emerging as a star body in the field of Physiotherapy. I wish our college becomes a remarkable center of education in the future days where students from every corners of this world may study under the same roof.

Amity Institute of Physiotherapy, Noida, INDIA

The origins of Physiotherapy can be found among the ancient Greeks, who understand that the capacity to move is a vital element of health and well being. Today Physiotherapy is an essential part of health services delivery systems around the world. Its contribution and importance has grown over the years of the 20th and 21st centuries. As people live longer and busier lives than ever before, wear and tear and chronic diseases take an increasing toll on people's bodies. Every year physiotherapists help millions of people to manage the effects of aging, illness, accidents, and the stresses and strains of life.

"Every year on 8th September, physiotherapists around the world use World Physiotherapy Day to draw attention to the contribution the profession can make to the health of individuals and nations. It's an opportunity to say what we do, how we do it, why we do it, and why physiotherapists are the movement, physical activity, and exercise experts" says Dr Marilyn Moffat, President of WCPT.

The profession specializes in human movement: that is why the theme of World Physiotherapy Day is "Movement for Health". Physiotherapists identify physical impairments, limitations, and disabilities that prevent people from being as independent as they can be. In this pursuit of excellence our "World Physiotherapy Day" holds a special place.Like every year, this year too Amity Institute of Physiotherapy is celebrating the World Physiotherapy Day on Tuesday, 08th September, 2009 in, Amity Campus, Sector - 44, Noida. We are organizing a Blood donation camp and a Seminar on the most current issues pertaining to our noble profession of Physiotherapy on this day to raise awareness about the crucial contribution our profession makes to keep people well, mobile and independent.

Faculty & Students of Amity Institute of Physiotherapy joins me to take this privilege to invite you to grace the occasion and give us the honour of welcoming you in our campus to mark this day.
